My Story
The Phone Call That Changed Everything
I was sitting in my office at Warner Bros. Pictures when I got the phone call that changed the course of my life.
My mother had been diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. Doctors scheduled her for emergency surgery the next morning. I remember looking out my office window at a movie set below. Everything around me kept moving, but my world had stopped.
Within weeks, I left California and moved back to Colorado to support her. I wanted answers, the way anyone does when someone they love faces a frightening diagnosis. I started researching everything I could find on cancer, nutrition, environmental exposures, lifestyle, and the conditions that contribute to illness. What began as a desperate attempt to help my mother woke up my inner researcher.
The Researcher in Me Took Over
After my mother’s cancer diagnosis, I began asking a question that would reshape the course of my life:
Why do we spend so much time addressing what we can see without investigating what may be happening beneath the surface?
That question felt familiar because, in many ways, it required the same skill set I had used throughout my media career.
My first degree was a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, followed by nearly two decades in television syndication, media research, and analysis. As a Senior Media Research Analyst at Warner Bros. Pictures, I analyzed data, identified patterns, questioned assumptions, and examined how information becomes a story that resonates with audiences. I was part of the team supporting major syndication strategies for hit shows, including FRIENDS, and other popular television programs.
That work trained me to look beneath the obvious storyline.
I learned to examine evidence, identify patterns others might overlook, and ask better questions. When I turned that same investigative lens toward health, I began to see how often symptoms are treated superficially while deeper contributing factors remain unexplored.
That is what drew me to functional medicine and nutrition. At its best, it’s detective work.
Then my own body and hair loss made the research personal.
When My Hair & Body Began Speaking Up
For years, I struggled with chronic exhaustion and digestive issues. I blamed a demanding career, long hours, stress, and a packed schedule.
I kept pushing through.
Then, in my late thirties, my hair started falling out in handfuls for months and months!
The strands in the shower turned into clumps. My ponytail got thinner. My part got wider. My scalp became visable. I told myself it was temporary, but my hair was revealing something I could no longer ignore.
Testing eventually uncovered iron-deficiency anemia, hypothyroidism, elevated Epstein-Barr virus activation, H. pylori, autoimmunity, food sensitivities, Candida, and gut dysbiosis. Together, these conditions were impairing my ability to absorb essential nutrients.
These weren’t random, unrelated problems. They were connected.
This experience taught me how frightening, isolating, and emotional hair loss can feel.
Where Investigative Research Meets Whole-Body Health
Where Investigative Research Meets Whole-Body Health
When I left my media career and returned to school full-time to study nutrition and functional medicine, I carried those same investigative skills with me.
That investigative approach forms the foundation of my work with women experiencing hair thinning and alopecia. I use research, detailed health histories, functional lab testing, and whole-body nutrition strategies to uncover what the hair may reveal about the body and to address the problems.
Today, I combine that research background with more than 14 years of experience in nutrition and functional medicine. I’ve collaborated with medical doctors in functional medicine practices, used advanced lab testing to investigate patterns underlying complex health concerns, and worked with thousands of people.
I am a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner, Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition®, a Certified Nutritionist, and a Certified Gluten-Free Practitioner. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Colorado Boulder, a diploma in Comprehensive Nutrition from Huntington University of Health Sciences, and advanced training and coursework from the Institute for Functional Medicine and Functional Medicine University.
My journalism and research background taught me not to accept a popular narrative without examining the evidence behind it.
My peer-reviewed research is indexed in PubMed and published in Integrative Medicine: A Clinician’s Journal. My work has also received the Maverick Award from Los Angeles Tribune Magazine, and I was named one of the “Top 23 Experts to Watch in the Health and Wellness Space”.
My work is grounded in formal nutrition education, advanced functional medicine training and testing, and a body of published nutrition articles, peer-reviewed abstracts, and clinical research. That depth enables me to look beyond isolated symptoms, connect patterns across multiple body systems, identify what may have been overlooked, and translate complex findings into practical, personalized strategies.

The Story Comes Full Circle
What started as a search to help my mother became a mission: helping women understand what their hair may be revealing about their health to stop the hair loss long-term.
Thankfully, I learned enough in time to help my mother make real changes to her nutrition and lifestyle. Today, at 92, she’s a thriving cancer survivor.
Her story changed what I believed about health. My own hair loss changed the course of my life. Together, those two experiences taught me the same lesson: symptoms are rarely random. They’re signals to look deeper.
